Molecular Characterization of Iraqi Local Goat Breeds Using Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA Markers
Cashmere is only produced from Maraz (Kurdi) goat breed in Iraqi Kurdistan Region. The objective of this study was to assess the genetic diversity of different Maraz color types, black goat and Shami breeds using random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) markers. Fourteen primers were used and nine out of them were selected based on their number of bands (NB) and polymorphic characteristics. Thes...
متن کاملQuantifying how DNA stretches, melts and changes twist under tension
In cells, DNA is constantly twisted, bent and stretched by numerous proteins mediating genome transactions. Understanding these essential biological processes requires in-depth knowledge of how DNA complies to mechanical stress. Two important physical features of DNA, helical structure and sequence, are not incorporated in current descriptions of DNA elasticity. Here we connect well-defined for...
متن کاملTension ribbons: Quantifying and visualising tonal tension
Tension is a complex multidimensional concept that is not easily quantified. This research proposes three methods for quantifying aspects of tonal tension based on the spiral array, a model for tonality. The cloud diameter measures the dispersion of clusters of notes in tonal space; the cloud momentum measures the movement of pitch sets in the spiral array; finally, tensile strain measures the ...
متن کاملDriving proteins off DNA using applied tension.
Proteins that bind DNA so as to reduce its end-to-end length can be dissociated by application of force. The thermodynamics of this process are discussed, with special attention to the case of histones bound to DNA (i.e., a string of nucleosomes, or chromatin fiber). The histone octamer is predicted to be driven off chromatin fiber for tensions >2 piconewtons.
متن کاملAsymmetry and dynamics in bis-intercalated DNA.
The bis-intercalator ditercalinium (NSC 366241), composed of two 7 H-pyridocarbazoles linked by a bis(ethylpiperidinium), binds to DNA with a binding constant greater than 10(7) M-1. One distinctive aspect of the 3-D X-ray structure of a DNA-ditercalinium complex is its asymmetry. We propose here that the activity of ditercalinium may be related to structural polymorphism and dynamic conversion...
